Return to Physical Activities After Total Knee Arthroplasty

  • The first goal of this study is to determine how patients who used the Journey II in their total knee arthroplasty surgery returned to recreational sports, work, and recommended physical activity levels of the American Heart Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.
  • The second goal is why some are limited when resuming sports, work, and physical fitness training.
  • The third goal is using advanced sports medicine rehabilitation principles to safely prepare patients for sports, work, and physical fitness training. 

Study Information

Researchers will observe patients as they participate by measuring muscle strength, endurance, balance, and neuromuscular control. The measurements determine when patients are able to participate in sports, work, and fitness training. Tools such a questionnaire, the weighted Charlson Comorbidity Index, and the WHO classification of obesity are used by researchers to assess patients’ health and limitations after total knee arthroplasty.

Inclusion Criteria

  • All sexes, ages 20 to 65 years old
  • Patients who, before surgery, hoped to return to sports and work after surgery
  • Those who give informed consent.
  • Agree to and participate in postoperative rehabilitation

Exclusion Criteria

  • Patient who do not aim to return to sports and work after total knee arthroplasty surgery
  • History of alcohol or drug abuse within 3 years prior to the operation
  • Osteoarthritis or any other joint disease
  • Presence of a connective tissue disease, autoimmune disease, HIV-positive, or immune deficiency syndrome
  • Any conditions that may interfere with the study
